Kwahu Afram Plains North Extends Free NHIS Registration to Island Communities

The District Chief Executive of Kwahu Afram Plains North, Hon. Kate Mawusi Babanawo, has collaborated with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to extend free NHIS registration to residents of Dwarf and Didwa Islands. This initiative is part of the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) policy launched by President John Dramani Mahama.
The NHIA Afram Plains District Office, in partnership with the DCE’s office and Assembly members, has made arrangements to provide boat transport, feeding, accommodation, and out-of-station allowances to ensure the success of the exercise. The registration exercise, which began on May 4, 2026, is expected to run for three weeks, covering all 11 electoral areas on both islands.
Hon. Babanawo emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it aims to provide healthcare access to communities that have been denied such services for almost 15 years due to inadequate resources. The District Manager of NHIA, Mr. Fuseni Aminu Mohammed, worked closely with the DCE’s office to ensure the success of the exercise.
Residents of Dwarf and Didwa Islands are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to register for the NHIS and access quality healthcare services. The officers will spend three days at each electoral area, ensuring that the service is brought closer to the people.
