The Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police has arrested a 40-year-old man, Roger Borbobli, at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra for allegedly possessing 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the police, the parcels were cleverly hidden in three suitcases the suspect was carrying at the busy transport terminal. The arrest followed a special intelligence-led operation by the unit at the station.
Police say the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations, while the suspected narcotics have been secured as evidence. The parcels are expected to be forwarded for laboratory examination to confirm the substance.
The Special Operations unit has in recent months intensified operations at lorry stations, borders and transit points as part of efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking networks using public transport routes across the country.
Roger Borbobli is expected to be arraigned before court after investigations are completed. The police have urged transport operators and the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements at terminals.
💬 Howedey Insight: 91 parcels in three suitcases at a busy Circle terminal shows how bold the drug trade has become. This Circle arrest should send a strong signal to traffickers using VIP buses.
