Mahama Unveils Plans for 24-Hour Authority to Boost Economy

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish a 24-Hour Authority to drive the implementation of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy. This move aims to stimulate economic activity, expand job creation, and attract investment across Ghana.

According to President Mahama, the policy represents a new phase in Ghana’s economic journey, driven by continuous operations, enhanced infrastructure, and human capital development. The initiative is structured around eight forward-looking pillars, including Grow 24, Make 24, Build 24, Show 24, Connect 24, Fund 24, Aspire 24, and Go 24.

These pillars focus on modernizing agriculture, industrialization, infrastructure development, creative arts, digital infrastructure, financial inclusion, human capital development, and implementation. The President emphasized that the programme is not just about longer business hours, but about building an ecosystem that allows Ghanaian businesses to thrive continuously.

The establishment of the 24-Hour Authority is expected to create thousands of new jobs, improve export revenues, and lay the foundation for a more self-reliant and competitive Ghanaian economy. President Mahama stressed that the initiative is designed to outlast political cycles and called for collective effort and discipline.

The Volta Economic Corridor is a key feature of the initiative, aiming to develop the full potential of the Volta Lake through agriculture, aquaculture, tourism, and transport. Plans include irrigating over two million hectares of land, establishing agro-industrial parks, and transforming the lake into a major logistics route.
