Ho Central NDC Chair Hopeful Demands Financial Audit
Richard Ahiafor has demanded detailed accounts of constituency finances, assets and allocations, warning of legal action if the records are not produced.
A chairmanship aspirant of the National Democratic Congress in the Ho Central Constituency, Richard Ahiafor, has formally petitioned the constituency executive committee for a comprehensive account of the constituency’s finances, assets and administrative activities ahead of the party’s internal elections. In a statutory notice dated August 9, 2026, Mr. Ahiafor requested audited financial statements, asset records and other documents covering key aspects of the constituency’s operations.
He said the request was not intended as a personal attack on the current leadership but as an administrative measure aimed at promoting transparency, democratic accountability and compliance with the NDC constitution. Mr. Ahiafor, who described himself as a dedicated party member and stakeholder, argued that elected constituency officers hold the party’s resources in trust and are obligated to maintain accurate and transparent accounts. He called for a full written response, citing the constitutional duty of executives to account for funds, disbursements, physical assets and other party resources.
The first demand concerns the constituency office fire incident. Mr. Ahiafor is requesting a complete operational and investigative report on the fire that affected the Ho Central office, including official police or fire service reports, estimated damage, and an itemized account of financial and material support received from party leaders, donors and well-wishers for rehabilitation. He is also seeking a fully audited statement covering the monthly GH¢20,000 allocation reportedly received by the constituency from the NDC National Headquarters or Regional Secretariat. According to the petition, the allocation is intended to support constituency operations, making it necessary for members to have access to a proper, itemized record of expenditure.
The third area involves national quotas, employment slots and political appointments allocated to Ho Central following the NDC’s return to government. Mr. Ahiafor is demanding a comprehensive report detailing allocations, board seats and political appointments, as well as the criteria used in their distribution. He is particularly seeking disclosure of beneficiaries, including party members who, according to the petition, made significant contributions to the campaign and should be accounted for in the allocation process.
The fourth demand focuses on party assets, equipment and official souvenirs. Mr. Ahiafor wants a complete asset register and account of items handed over to the constituency office, including motorbikes, laptops, sewing machines and promotional materials. He is also seeking a list of custodians, details of items distributed, and records of any assets that may be missing, damaged or unaccounted for. The final demand concerns agricultural inputs and fertilizer distributed to the constituency. He is requesting a transparent report showing quantities received, distribution criteria, beneficiaries, and any remaining stock or balances.
Mr. Ahiafor has warned that failure by the constituency leadership to provide a full, satisfactory and audited written account within seven working days of receiving the petition could lead him to invoke the party’s internal dispute-resolution mechanisms. He further indicated that he would seek a formal interlocutory injunction to restrain the party from proceeding with the upcoming constituency elections until the financial and asset accountability issues have been addressed.
The notice stresses that the petition is being pursued in good faith and is intended to safeguard party unity, protect constituency assets and restore confidence among grassroots members ahead of the internal elections. “I reiterate that this exercise is conducted in good faith to safeguard party unity, protect constituency assets, and restore confidence among grassroots members prior to our internal elections,” Mr. Ahiafor stated. He has asked the constituency leadership to provide a swift formal response and submit the requested records.
The petition was copied to the NDC Volta Regional Chairman, the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, the Volta Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ho Municipal Assembly. The demands come as the NDC prepares for constituency-level elections, with issues of financial accountability, equitable distribution of opportunities and management of party resources expected to dominate discussions among grassroots members.
