ECG Announces Load Shedding In Volta And Oti
The Electricity Company of Ghana has initiated a temporary load management programme in parts of the Volta and Oti Regions following a technical fault at the Ghana Grid Company’s Asiekpe Bulk Supply Point. The intervention is intended to stabilise the national transmission network while remedial works proceed.
According to ECG Volta and Oti Regions statement, the exercise will be conducted in two phases to manage demand and prevent cascading instability. The utility said the measure became necessary after engineers detected a transformer challenge that compromised supply reliability at the bulk point.
The first phase targets institutions and communities including Ho Technical University, SSNIT Flats, Police Headquarters, Ghana Water Limited office, parts of UHAS Main Campus, Kpando Township, Hohoe, Jasikan and surrounding areas. The second phase will affect Kpenoe, Takla, Ho Central Market, Akoefe, Tanyigbe, Alavanyo, Nkonya, Worawora, Klefe, Ziavi, Nkwanta and adjoining localities. ECG indicated that outages will be rotated to limit disruption.
Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, Public Relations Officer for ECG’s Volta and Oti Regions, said engineers are working in collaboration with GRIDCo to rectify the fault and restore normalcy. She urged affected customers to exercise patience, noting that the temporary curtailment is a protective step to safeguard the broader transmission system.
The development underscores the interdependence between distribution and transmission infrastructure in Ghana’s power sector. Bulk Supply Points serve as critical nodes, and faults at that level often necessitate downstream load management to maintain grid integrity. ECG assured that power will be reinstated progressively once technical works are concluded.
With repair efforts underway, the company called for public understanding and reiterated its commitment to minimizing inconvenience. Residents and businesses in the listed areas have been advised to plan accordingly as engineers work to return the system to full capacity.
