Member of Parliament for La Dade Kotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has revealed that government is setting up a committee to compensate victims of the La Beach demolition exercise. She made the disclosure on GHOne TV, saying the Mahama administration has listened to the cries of affected residents and is ready to deliver justice.
According to the MP, the committee will audit all affected structures, verify ownership claims, and ensure that legitimate victims receive adequate compensation for their lost properties. She explained that the demolition, which was linked to the Marine Drive and coastal defense project, displaced many families without proper resettlement or compensation under the previous government.

Hon. Sowah said government remains committed to inclusive development and will not allow infrastructure projects to impoverish citizens. She noted that many victims are fisherfolk, food vendors and small business owners who depended on the beachfront for daily income. The committee, she said, will work with the La Traditional Council and the Municipal Assembly to ensure no one is left out.
Some victims who spoke to GHOne News expressed relief but urged government to expedite the process, noting that they have been homeless and jobless for months. They also appealed for temporary support while the committee completes its work and compensation is paid.
