Chief Director of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Marcus Haligah has been designated to represent sector Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah on the Board of the Ghana Gold Board GoldBod in Accra. The designation shifts ministerial representation to the technical head of the ministry. The move aligns with ongoing reforms in gold trading regulation.
According to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Chief Director will bring institutional memory and policy continuity to GoldBod deliberations. GoldBod was established to regulate gold trading and curb smuggling under the Minerals and Mining Act. The Ministry says the Board requires experienced stewardship to enforce compliance.
Marcus Haligah is a career administrator with oversight of policy coordination at the Ministry. His designation replaces direct ministerial sitting on the Board and allows the Minister to focus on strategic leadership. The Ministry expects stronger coordination between GoldBod and the Minerals Commission.
Ghana Gold Board is mandated to license gold aggregators and monitor responsible sourcing. Experts note that Board composition is critical for transparency in gold exports and revenue tracking. The new representation is expected to fast track operational guidelines for licensed buyers.
The Ministry says an official communication on the change has been issued to GoldBod Secretariat. Board meetings are scheduled to review compliance protocols this quarter. Members have been urged to support reforms to maximize Ghana gold value chain benefits.
