Ghana Women Movement Petitions Gender Minister Dr Agnes Momo
Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has received a petition from the Ghana Women Movement calling for protection and advancement of rights of Ghanaian women in Accra. The group presented demands on equality, safety and economic inclusion. The petition seeks stronger enforcement of gender laws.
According to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Minister assured the movement of government commitment to gender equity and social justice. She noted that Affirmative Action Act 2024 and Domestic Violence Act require full implementation. The Ministry will review concerns and engage stakeholders.
Ghana Women Movement outlined challenges including gender based violence, limited access to finance and underrepresentation in leadership. The group called for increased budget allocation for women empowerment programs and shelters. Members urged enforcement of workplace protections for women and girls.
Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the movement for sustained advocacy and pledged to table concerns at cabinet level. The Ministry plans to strengthen collaborations with civil society and development partners. Officials say new interventions will target adolescent girls and vulnerable women.
UTV Ghana reported the presentation as part of national dialogue on women rights. Advocates say protecting women rights boosts economic growth and social stability. The Ghana Women Movement expects formal response and action plan from the Ministry within weeks.
