Minority Demands Removal Of Kofi Adams Over Visa Scandal

At a press conference in Parliament House on Wednesday, the Minority Spokesperson on Youth and Sports said reports indicate dozens of persons paid huge sums to secure visas under the guise of being protocol officers, journalists and technical staff for the World Cup, but later absconded or were denied entry in the United States. They argued that the scandal has tarnished Ghana’s reputation and exposed weak oversight at the Sports Ministry under Kofi Adams’ leadership.
They are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the minister immediately and institute an independent probe into the visa issuance process, including the roles of the GFA, the Sports Ministry protocol unit and external travel agents. The Minority also wants the US Embassy in Accra and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to publish the full list of persons who applied for visas through the Sports Ministry for the World Cup tournament.
