Senior Nursing Officer and mother of three, Salomey Awiti Baffoe, has reunited with her family after being granted GH¢100,000 bail in connection with the ongoing Ghana Jollof case. The 40-year-old nurse from Techiman was arrested at her home in Hansua, near Techiman, in September and subsequently charged with abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge, according to MyJoyOnline report by Prince Adu-Owusu on Tuesday 7th October 2026.

Her uncle, Kojo Asiedu, said although Salomey appears well after her release, the family is yet to have her examined by a medical specialist to properly assess her health. Speaking to Adom News, Mr Asiedu expressed gratitude for the help the family received in establishing Salomey’s whereabouts during the period of her detention and said the family will hand her over to specialists for thorough checkup.

Mr Asiedu told Adom News that Salomey’s return home had brought immense relief and joy to the family, particularly her two children who had not seen their mother for some time. He said it was more than a Christmas celebration when her children saw her, describing their reaction as very sad yet happy after a long separation. He added that Salomey’s mother had also been deeply affected by her absence and had stopped eating until she saw her daughter again and said she would eat.

He thanked the media for helping the family locate Salomey and subsequently following developments that led to her release, saying if not for media intervention, they wouldn’t have known her whereabouts but found she was with the police. The uncle also expressed concern about circumstances surrounding the arrest, saying the family initially feared she had been kidnapped by armed robbers and lost hope until media investigations found where she was being kept.

Mr Asiedu said the manner in which Salomey was taken into custody was worrying and appealed to government to ensure security agencies follow proper procedures when making arrests. He warned that such an approach could be exploited by criminals posing as security personnel and pleaded with government to stop night arrests that leave children alone. He said police should use the right channel to arrest persons even if they have committed a crime, but how they came to pick up his niece was worrying.

The case against Salomey stems from her alleged links to Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as Ghana Jollof. Police allege that Salomey acted as a liaison and helped recruit people to redistribute videos produced by Ms Kodua on various social media platforms. The allegations have not been established in court. Salomey has pleaded not guilty and remains entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case proceeds. Source: MyJoyOnline / Prince Adu-Owusu.
