Defilement Suspect Dies in Police Custody

A 36-year-old carpenter, Emmanuel Cudjoe, was found dead in police custody at the Agyeikrom Police Station in the Central Region, Ghana, after being arrested for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old daughter. According to The Ghana Police, Cudjoe was arrested on May 10, 2026, and was found hanging in his cell around 11:00 am the same day.
The police report indicates that Cudjoe used a strip torn from a blanket to hang himself. The Regional Crime Scene Management team investigated the incident and found no visible marks of violence on the body. The body has been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
The family has expressed shock and disbelief at the news, with some questioning the circumstances surrounding Cudjoe’s death. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
This incident has raised concerns about police custody procedures and the handling of sensitive cases. The Ghana Police Service has a history of being criticized for their handling of such cases.
