LIVE | A white bag, whose contents could not be identified, has been sent in to Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah, who is detained at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra, as tension grows outside the EOCO head office. The development was observed by #the1957news crew on ground.

According to eyewitnesses at EOCO, the white bag was handed over to security officials at the gate and was subsequently taken inside to the detained MP. Officers at the facility declined to disclose what was inside the bag, citing security protocol and ongoing investigations. The incident comes just hours after the Accra High Court cleared EOCO to arrest the MP.

Sources at the scene confirm that former Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea and Effia MP Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko were allowed entry into the EOCO premises to see the detained lawmaker. Their entry comes after Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah surrendered himself to EOCO custody following the High Court’s approval of a warrant for his arrest.

However, in a dramatic twist, other Members of Parliament, including Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, were denied access to the facility. The denial has sparked heated exchanges outside EOCO as supporters and party officials demand transparency. Security at the EOCO gate has been tightened with only cleared lawyers and family allowed in.

💬 Howedey Insight: Baffour Awuah’s detention is linked to his law firm Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners which represents SIC Life Savings and Loans. His legal team says he was never personally investigated until he became vocal for Madam Salomey in the Ghana Jollof matter.

The Majority Chief Whip Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor has earlier condemned EOCO’s handling of the MP’s case, describing procedural improprieties that hurt Ghana’s democratic image. Legal analysts say the High Court’s clearance affirms EOCO’s mandate even over sitting MPs, but insist due process must be respected.

As of press time, EOCO has not issued an official statement on next steps after the MP’s surrender. More updates are expected as the investigation progresses. Stay with Howedey.com for live updates from EOCO.
