Zimbabwean Tycoon Wicknell Chivayo Wife Die In Helicopter Crash

Prominent Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife have been killed in a helicopter crash that left six people dead, his family have confirmed. The Bell 430 helicopter went down in Marondera Rural area, Mashonaland East Province, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at about 5pm while traveling from Chikomba towards Harare.

Chivayo was known for his lavish lifestyle, close ties to African presidents and lucrative government contracts. Zimbabwean authorities confirmed there were no survivors. Among the dead were his wife Lucy Muteke, her aide Senelisiwe Magagula, and pilots Captain Kelvin T. Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa.

Police and aviation investigators have commenced investigation into the cause of the crash. The aircraft crashed near Waddilove Mission, close to Kudenga Farm. Emergency services recovered wreckage as family members were notified. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has confirmed the death and extended condolences.

Just hours before the tragedy, Chivayo made a significant donation of US$250,000 to Highlanders Football Club in Bulawayo, bringing his total support to the club to over US$2 million in two years. The donation was announced around 1pm on the same day, approximately four hours before the fatal crash.

A resurfaced post from May 28, 2025, by Zimbabwean personality Susan Mutami has gone viral after the crash. She had written on X, “He’s actually going to die in a plane crash. Save this post.” Social media users are now debating the prediction following confirmation of Chivayo’s death.

Authorities say the priority remains recovery, formal identification and determining the cause of the crash. No official cause has been announced yet as investigations continue.
