Russia Refuses to Extradite Citizen

Ghana’s efforts to extradite a Russian national accused of circulating non-consensual sexual videos have hit a roadblock, with the Russian Ambassador indicating that their constitution takes precedence over any extradition treaty. According to GHOne News, Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George said the Ambassador made it clear that Russia would not extradite its citizen.

The Russian national is accused of committing a serious cybercrime, and Ghanaian authorities had initiated extradition proceedings. However, the Russian Ambassador’s statement has dashed hopes of securing the suspect’s extradition.

Minister George expressed disappointment with Russia’s stance, saying it was not unexpected. The Ghanaian government is considering its next steps, including possible consultations with international partners.

The incident highlights the challenges of international cooperation in tackling cybercrimes. Ghana’s laws and international agreements are being reviewed to determine the best course of action.

The case has sparked concerns about online safety and the need for stronger laws to protect citizens.

The government is expected to take a firm stance on cybercrimes, and stakeholders are watching developments closely.
