Two Jailed 20 Years Over Nigerian Cyber Trafficking Ring
A Tema Circuit Court has sentenced two men to two decades in prison for orchestrating a transnational human trafficking syndicate that lured Nigerian nationals into Ghana under false employment pretenses and forced them into cyber fraud. The ruling marks a significant judicial crackdown on modern slavery linked to internet crime.
According to http://Myjoyonline.com report, Kingsley Ndifon and Emmanuel Akong were convicted of human trafficking and causing harm following a trial that exposed a captive operation in Sebrepor, a suburb of Tema. Police said the men were apprehended after a distress call prompted a raid, during which eleven Nigerian victims were rescued from confinement.
The prosecution presented evidence that the accused recruited the victims with promises of legitimate work, only to confiscate their identification and mobile devices upon arrival. The men were then compelled to execute internet fraud using laptops and an iPad recovered from the premises. Investigators testified that the victims endured malnutrition, received limited sustenance, and were assaulted with cables and machetes when they failed to meet fraudulent quotas.
Presiding over Circuit Court B, Her Honour Naomi Adusei Amamiampong Kucour imposed a concurrent sentence of twenty years for trafficking and ten years for causing harm, effectively mandating twenty years incarceration for each convict. The court found that the operation exemplified coercive exploitation and grievous bodily injury under the Human Trafficking Act.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its resolve to dismantle trafficking networks and cybercrime cells operating within the region. Authorities are urging community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious residential activity as part of a broader strategy to intercept exploitative migration schemes and protect vulnerable populations.
