Akatsi North District Assembly Empowers Persons With Disabilities
The Akatsi North District Assembly has taken a significant step towards promoting inclusivity by supporting Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) with items and cash worth GHC 600,000 on the 23rd December, 2025. This initiative aims to improve livelihoods, strengthen self-reliance, and ensure PWDs actively participate in the district’s economic and social life.
This is the second of such major donations within the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region in the bid to ameliorating the plight of and empowering people with disabilities this year.
The support package includes income-generating tools, assistive devices, educational scholarships, medical bills, and start-up capital for small businesses. This is part of the assembly’s efforts to promote inclusivity and support vulnerable groups in the district.
District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kojo Katamani, emphasized the importance of supporting PWDs, stating that they are the vulnerable among us and deserve dignity, opportunity, and shared progress. The assembly is committed to taking practical steps to promote their welfare.
The support is funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (PWD Component) and supplemented by the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF). This initiative aligns with the government’s interest in ensuring PWDs live a normal life, as enshrined in Act 715 Section 42 of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, promising to make good use of the items and cash. The assembly has promised to roll out a third phase of the intervention before the end of the year, further demonstrating its commitment to empowering PWDs.
