Wengam Retains Assemblies of God Ghana Top Post
Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam will lead the church for another four years after a decisive re-election.

Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam has been re-elected General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, securing another four-year mandate to lead the church’s national administration. He polled 3,727 votes, representing about 89.6 per cent of the votes cast, at the church’s 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting held at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
His re-election places him at the head of a newly constituted Executive Presbytery leadership tasked with providing strategic direction and overseeing the administration of Assemblies of God, Ghana. Joining him in the new national leadership are Rev. Dr. Kwadwo Bempah as Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Albert Anane as General Secretary and Rev. Simon Abu Baba, who retained his position as General Treasurer after going unopposed. The four officers form the church’s core Executive Presbytery leadership and are responsible for key aspects of its national administration, policy implementation and institutional oversight.
Rev. Dr. Kwadwo Bempah, who serves at Holy Hill Chapel in Adabraka, Accra, takes up the position of Assistant General Superintendent, while Rev. Dr. Albert Anane of Father’s House in Koforidua becomes General Secretary. Rev. Simon Abu Baba of Central Chapel, Mim, retains responsibility for the church’s finances as General Treasurer after no other candidate contested the position. The new leadership is expected to work with the wider Executive Presbytery, which includes the Regional Superintendents, to implement decisions of the General Council and coordinate the church’s activities across the country.
The leadership changes also extend to the church’s missionary and church-planting structures. Rev. Boniface Keelson has been named Foreign Missions Director, while Rev. Aaron Lambon Fant has been appointed Home Missions Director. Rev. Fant’s appointment comes alongside recognition for his contribution to church planting, having been honoured as the Best Church Planter at the General Council meeting. The appointments are expected to reinforce the church’s efforts to expand its evangelism, missions and church-planting activities both within Ghana and beyond the country.
Rev. Wengam first assumed the position of General Superintendent in August 2022. His latest victory gives him a second consecutive four-year term to oversee the affairs of one of Ghana’s major Pentecostal denominations. His strong electoral showing provides a clear mandate as the church enters another phase of its national development. Under the renewed leadership, attention is expected to focus on strengthening the church’s administrative structures, expanding missions, supporting local congregations and advancing its wider evangelistic mandate.
The new Executive Presbytery will also have responsibility for translating decisions of the General Council into programmes and policies while providing leadership to the church’s regional and local structures. With the election of the four principal officers and the appointment of key missions directors, Assemblies of God, Ghana now begins a new four-year administrative cycle under Rev. Wengam’s continued leadership.
