A major fire has broken out at a warehouse used for the storage of numerous barrels of alcohol at Tema Community 26 in the Greater Accra Region, prompting a large-scale emergency response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The blaze, which was reported to have occurred on Sunday, July 12 and still raging at the time of filing this report, has drawn four fire tenders from the Tema Industrial Area, Ashaiman, Tema Regional Headquarters and Tema Metro Fire Stations. Firefighters are working intensively to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures and businesses.
The warehouse, reportedly stocked with large quantities of alcohol stored in barrels, presents a significant firefighting challenge due to the highly flammable nature of its contents. According to a video posted by the GNFS, thick plumes of smoke is seen rising above the area as emergency personnel battled the flames.
Firefighters have established a coordinated operation at the scene, deploying personnel and equipment to suppress the fire while ensuring the safety of surrounding properties and residents. Their immediate priority is to bring the blaze under control and minimize the risk of further explosions or the spread of the fire.
As of the latest update, there have been no official reports of fatalities or injuries. The full extent of damage to the warehouse and its contents has also not yet been determined.
Authorities are expected to launch a comprehensive investigation to establish the cause of the fire once it has been completely extinguished. Officials are also likely to assess the structural integrity of the affected facility and determine the financial losses incurred.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from the vicinity to allow firefighters unrestricted access to the scene and to ensure public safety as efforts to contain the blaze continue.
