Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey has pleaded not guilty to two additional rape charges in a London court, further complicating his ongoing legal battle. The Villarreal midfielder, who has already denied five counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, April 13, 2026, where he entered not guilty pleas to the latest allegations.
According to #CitiNewsroom, Partey’s defence lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that her client “continues to deny all charges against him” and has cooperated with the police throughout the investigation. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s time at Arsenal.
Partey, 32, has been released on bail ahead of his trial, which is scheduled to begin in November, although it may be delayed. The Ghana Football Association has yet to comment on the development, but Partey’s club, Villarreal, has issued a statement expressing support for their player.
The latest charges relate to an alleged incident involving a fourth complainant dating back to December 2020. Partey had previously joined Villarreal from Arsenal last summer after his contract expired.
Partey’s transfer to Villarreal in August 2025 was seen as a fresh start for the midfielder, who had made 167 appearances for Arsenal after joining from Atletico Madrid in a €50 million deal in 2020. Despite his legal troubles, Partey remains part of Ghana’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.
