Volta Region Receives New Metro Mass Buses

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu has received leadership of Metro Mass Transport Limited to formally accept newly procured buses allocated to bolster public transportation within the region. The addition is expected to alleviate commuter strain and improve connectivity across key corridors.

According to a post by James Gunu, the delegation led by Regional Manager Prince Sherif Ibrahim Ahunya presented the vehicles at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. The allocation distributes the buses between Aflao and Ho, targeting high-demand routes that have long suffered from inadequate service and unreliable schedules. The deployment aims to enhance mobility for traders, students, and workers.

Public transport in Ghana remains the backbone of socioeconomic movement, yet persistent fleet depletion has diminished Metro Mass’s capacity to meet demand. The Volta Region’s acquisition represents a deliberate intervention to reverse that decline. For communities such as Korkor that depend on inter-town travel, improved frequency and reliability can translate into economic opportunity and reduced travel fatigue.

Minister Gunu commended the initiative and reiterated government’s resolve to modernize the transport sector through strategic investment and operational discipline. He urged management and drivers to institutionalize rigorous maintenance protocols and cultivate professional conduct to preserve the longevity of the assets. Sustainability, he noted, hinges as much on stewardship as on procurement.

The buses signify more than expanded fleet capacity; they embody a commitment to accessible, efficient transit as a public good. If maintenance culture is sustained and professionalism upheld, the intervention could recalibrate commuter confidence in state-run transport. The measure will ultimately be judged by the quality of service delivered to Volta’s travelling public.
