Ghanaian Fishermen Rescued After Mysterious “Black Boat” Attack

A dramatic rescue operation has concluded with all 59 Ghanaian fishermen, who were attacked by unidentified assailants operating a mysterious “black boat”, safely back on shore. The fishermen had been on a routine night fishing expedition approximately 35 nautical miles off the coast of the Central Region when they were ambushed by armed men.
According to the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, the attackers fired warning shots and seized valuable equipment, including outboard motors and generator sets, leaving the fishermen stranded. “They were robbed of their outboard motors and generator sets by a black boat. I cannot disclose the nationality of the attackers. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.
The rescue effort, led by the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service Marine Police Unit, and the National Disaster Management Organisation, managed to locate and rescue all 59 fishermen, who were then taken to safety. The rescued fishermen underwent medical checks and were reunited with their families.
The incident has raised concerns about maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, a region known for piracy and armed robbery. The Ghana Armed Forces have launched an investigation into the attack and are working to apprehend the perpetrators.
The attack is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Ghanaian fishermen, highlighting the need for increased patrols and security measures to protect the country’s fishing industry. The Ghana Navy has been urged to intensify its efforts to combat maritime crime and ensure the safety of fishermen.
The rescued fishermen are receiving support and assistance from authorities, and the incident is expected to lead to renewed calls for improved security and cooperation to tackle the growing threat of maritime piracy in the region.
