NPP’s Decline Began in 2007: Tanko Computer

NPP's Decline Began in 2007, Says Rashid Tanko Computer

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) started losing its core values in 2007 when they elected Nana Akufo-Addo as their presidential candidate instead of Alan Kyerematen, according to Rashid Tanko Computer, Acting CEO of GIFEC and Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to TV3 News, Tanko Computer made this statement, emphasizing that the NPP’s decision was a turning point in the party’s decline. He believes the party’s choice led to a loss of focus on core values and principles.

Tanko Computer’s comments come amid ongoing internal conflicts within the NPP, with some members calling for reforms and introspection following their defeat in the 2024 general elections. The NPP lost over 50 seats in parliament, reducing their representation to 81 seats.

The NDC, on the other hand, secured over 180 seats, forming a significant majority in parliament. Tanko Computer attributes the NDC’s victory to the party’s commitment to accountability and responsiveness to the needs of Ghanaians.

According to GhanaWeb, the NPP’s defeat has sparked intense debate within the party, with some members questioning the leadership’s strategy and decision-making processes. The party is expected to undergo significant reforms to regain its footing in Ghanaian politics.
