Ghana’s VP Champions Democracy in Barcelona

 

 

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has touched down in Barcelona, Spain, to participate in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the Initiative “In Defence of Democracy.” According to #GhanaNews, she was warmly received by members of the Ghanaian community in Spain, led by Ghana’s Ambassador, H.E. Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, who briefed her on preparations and outlined the programme and key engagements scheduled for the visit.

 

The Vice President is expected to join global leaders in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening democratic governance and advancing collective efforts to safeguard democratic values. Her visit is part of Ghana’s efforts to deepen international cooperation and reinforce democratic institutions amid rising global pressures.

 

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will participate as a featured speaker at the event, which is being hosted by the Spanish government under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The summit will bring together heads of state and senior officials from countries including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, and Spain.

 

Key issues on the agenda include combating disinformation, protecting digital integrity, tackling extremism, and addressing the ethical use of artificial intelligence. Leaders will also examine global security challenges and explore stronger cooperation between Africa and Latin America, particularly in areas of governance, innovation, and sustainable development.

 

The Vice President’s visit is expected to reinforce Ghana’s commitment to democratic values and good governance. Her engagement with the Ghanaian community in Spain will focus on reinforcing democratic institutions and promoting collective efforts to safeguard democratic values.
