A 26-year-old man, Ebenezer Frimpong, is in police custody after allegedly attempting to steal an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region. According to #Peacefm, the suspect was arrested following a high-speed chase by a SWAT team along the Abuakwa–Kumasi road.
The incident occurred when a police driver briefly left the vehicle unattended with the engine running while purchasing medication. Frimpong allegedly seized the opportunity to make a getaway, but was pursued by the SWAT team.
Eyewitnesses described the chase as intense, with the armoured vehicle weaving through traffic before finally being apprehended. The police have recovered the vehicle, and Frimpong is facing charges.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP David Kwanpo, praised the swift response of the SWAT team, saying, “We will not tolerate any attempts to compromise the security of our personnel and assets.”
The incident has raised concerns about security protocols within the police service. The police are reviewing procedures to prevent similar incidents.
