The Authority of Scripture
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness:” — 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
The Authority of Scripture is not in man, but in God. The Bible is not just a book of good ideas; it
is the inspired Word of God. Men wrote it, but God breathed it. That is why it carries power. When
you stand on Scripture, you are not standing on opinion, you are standing on the voice of God
Himself.
Scripture has authority because it is settled forever. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my
words shall not pass away” — Matthew 24:35 KJV. Times change, cultures change, opinions
change, but the Word remains. That is why we do not adjust Scripture to fit our lives; we adjust
our lives to fit Scripture. God’s Word is the final answer, not a suggestion.
Scripture has authority to teach, correct, and transform. It is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness. It does not only inform you; it reforms you. When
you allow the Word to judge your thoughts and actions, it cuts away what is wrong and builds
what is right. It is a mirror that shows you who you are and a hammer that breaks what should
not be.
When you live under the authority of Scripture, you live under the authority of God. You do not
live by feelings, trends, or traditions, but by “It is written.” That is how Jesus defeated temptation.
That is how we overcome today. Let the Word be your compass, your judge, and your guide. If
Scripture says it, settle it.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word. I receive the Bible as Your inspired Word and I submit to its
authority over my life. Let it teach me, correct me, and lead me in righteousness. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
