Operability of Faith
“So faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” – James 2:17-18 WEB
Faith isn’t just a mental assent; it’s a working force. The Bible shows us that true faith is operative – it produces works. James emphasizes that faith without works is dead.
When we believe God, our faith should lead to action. Like Abraham, who was justified by faith when he offered Isaac: “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.” – James 2:21-23 WEB
The works of faith refers to the fruits of faith – actions like love, kindness, and obedience that show our faith is real. The apostle Paul also says, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith which worketh by love.” – Galatians 5:6 WEB
Let’s ask God to make our faith operative, producing works that reflect His love and character.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, make my faith operative, producing works that reflect Your love and character. Help me live out my belief in You. Amen.
