ACCRA — Speaking at the 2026 Sex for Jobs Conference in Accra, Professor Opoku-Agyemang said the practice constituted an abuse of power and a violation of individuals’ bodily autonomy and institutional integrity.
“The exploitation known as sex for jobs in workplaces and sex for grades in academic and training institutions constitutes an abuse of power, an erasure of bodily autonomy, and a breach of institutional integrity,” she said.
“Beyond the moral injury, these are economic and social costs, including lost productivity and wasted talent. Every instance of abuse that forces people into silence erodes public trust in the institutions established to serve those people.”
The Vice President said the government recognised the seriousness of the abuses and its responsibility to address them.
She called for independent and confidential reporting channels, particularly in situations where the persons accused of misconduct exercise authority over victims’ employment, promotion or academic progress.
“There must be independent reporting channels where the person accused of misconduct holds power over employment, promotion or academic progress. People must be able to report these abuses confidentially, without fear of intimidation, retaliation, or even the loss of opportunity,” she said.
