Sam George To Shut Down Political And Religious Media Houses
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nortey George, has said if he is left on his own, he will shut down every political and religiously affiliated media house in this country.
“If you leave me, I will shut down every political and religiously affiliated media house in this country,” Sam George stated.
The Minister made the remark while speaking on the proliferation of media houses with clear partisan and sectarian interests and its impact on responsible broadcasting in Ghana.
He argued that many of such stations have departed from professional standards, using their platforms to push political and religious agendas instead of promoting national development and truth.
The statement has since sparked debate within the media fraternity, with stakeholders questioning how such a move would be implemented within Ghana’s constitutional guarantee of press freedom.
