The Ministry of Finance has approved a payment schedule for the arrears owed to Members of the Lower Court Bench and staff of the Judicial Service.
In a letter dated 2nd November, 2026 and signed by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the approval follows the President’s approval for the implementation of new conditions of service for the Judicial Service staff and Members of the Lower Court Bench, with effect from January 1, 2026, pursuant to Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution.
According to the schedule, the November 2026 payment will cover five months, January to May 2026, while the December 2026 payment will cover the remaining five months, June to October 2026.
The letter, addressed to the Controller and Accountant-General, directed the Department to give effect to the approval in line with Government’s resolve not to accrue arrears.
The approval relates to the review of salaries and allowances for the Judicial Service staff and Members of the Lower Court Bench, as communicated in the Ministry’s letters dated 28th October, 2026. Copies were sent to the Chief Justice, the Judicial Secretary, the Auditor-General and other officials.
💬 Howedey Insight: Judiciary staff go home with 10 months arrears before Christmas. November and December payments will bring relief after the new conditions took effect in January.
