“I can promise you a good Christmas so far as the exchange rate is concerned” – Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BOG), has assured Ghanaians.
The Governor said the central bank has put in place measures to maintain the stability of the cedi, adding that Ghanaians should expect a relatively stable exchange rate during the Christmas season.
His comments come at a time when businesses and households are watching the cedi closely ahead of the festive season, when demand for foreign exchange usually rises due to increased imports.
Dr. Asiama expressed confidence that the bank’s reserves and ongoing economic reforms will help keep the currency stable and support prices of goods and services.
Market watchers have welcomed the assurance, saying a stable cedi during Christmas will bring relief to traders, importers and ordinary Ghanaians planning for the holidays.
💬 Howedey Insight: This is the promise many traders wanted to hear. If BOG keeps the cedi stable, Christmas market prices might not shock us this year.
