Sierra Leone’s President Leads ECOWAS Mission to Stabilize Guinea-Bissau

 

 

Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, led a high-level ECOWAS mission to Guinea-Bissau, engaging with the country’s High Military Command in a bid to stabilize the nation. The visit follows the 68th ECOWAS Summit communiqué, which called for a short transition led by an inclusive government reflecting Guinea-Bissau’s diverse political and societal spectrum.

 

According to President Maada Bio, discussions with Major-General Horta Inta-a and the military command were constructive, with ECOWAS reiterating its call for a transitional government that includes all stakeholders. The mission aimed to promote stability and democratic governance in Guinea-Bissau, a key objective of ECOWAS.

 

President Maada Bio was joined by Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray on the mission. The delegation’s visit underscores ECOWAS’ commitment to resolving Guinea-Bissau’s political challenges.

 

Guinea-Bissau has experienced instability in recent years, with multiple coups and political transitions. ECOWAS has been actively involved in efforts to restore democratic governance and stability in the country.

 

The outcome of the mission is expected to pave the way for a peaceful transition and the restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau. ECOWAS will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure the country’s stability and development.
