Madina Market Ablaze: Firefighters Contain Blaze, No Casualties Reported

A massive fire broke out at Madina Market in Accra, sending shockwaves through the community as firefighters rushed to the scene. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the fire, which affected three shops on the ground floor of a one-storey building, was brought under control by 17:00 GMT and fully extinguished by 17:25 GMT.

According to the GNFS, one shop and its contents were completely destroyed, while two adjacent shops sustained partial damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The fire is believed to have started in one of the kiosks, possibly due to an electrical fault.

The rapid response from firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby structures, including a forex bureau. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with authorities working to determine the exact source of the blaze.

The incident has left many traders in distress, with some losing their livelihoods. Residents said it was the second time fire had destroyed people’s properties in the area, highlighting concerns about fire safety in the community.

The GNFS has commended the prompt action of firefighters, which prevented major loss. The service has emphasized its commitment to protecting lives and property through timely and professional emergency response.

The market’s residents and traders are now counting their losses, with some calling for government assistance to help them recover from the devastating fire.
