Volta Chiefs Storm China For 5 Key Investment Deals

A high powered delegation of Volta Chiefs led by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV has landed in Guangzhou, China to secure transformational investments for the Volta Region. The chiefs arrived after an official invitation from Ghana Ambassador to China H E Kojo Bonsu to explore partnerships in technology, education, agriculture and sanitation. They were received by the Ambassador, top executives of Sinohui Investment Corporation and local Chinese leaders.

The mission brings together prominent traditional rulers from Hohoe, Kpalime, Kpando, Anyako and other key traditional areas, with coordination by Mr Peter Ahiakpor. The chiefs moved straight into strategic engagements with Chinese investors to pitch Volta as a stable and ready destination for industrial growth. Their agenda covers smart farming systems, classroom infrastructure, digital learning and modern sanitation solutions.

The delegation says Volta is ready for global capital that creates jobs and improves livelihoods. The chiefs expressed confidence that direct engagement with Chinese industry will unlock factories, skills transfer and export growth for their communities. The meeting in Guangzhou was described as warm and business focused, according to Ghana Ambassador to China H E Kojo Bonsu who assured investors of government support for credible regional partnerships.

In Ghana, chieftaincy remains a constitutional institution that drives local development and social cohesion. Every paramount chief belongs to a Traditional Council and the Regional House of Chiefs, which advises government on customary law, land administration and cultural preservation. This system explains why investors engage chiefs as custodians of land and community consent. The Volta Regional House of Chiefs plays a central role in mobilizing communities for education, health and infrastructure projects.

Ghana and China share over 60 years of diplomatic ties that have grown into a strategic partnership anchored on trade, infrastructure and education. Bilateral trade hit a record 14.1 billion dollars in 2025. Under the Forum on China Africa Cooperation and the Belt and Road Initiative, China provides zero tariff access for 100 percent of tariff lines from 53 African states including Ghana. Ghana is pushing its Big Push Infrastructure Programme, a 10 billion dollar plan for roads, power and digital networks, and its Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Act guarantees investor protection and free repatriation of dividends. This is the framework guiding current talks.

The chiefs are expected to sign memoranda on tech hubs, school exchange programmes, agro processing plants and waste to value sanitation projects before returning to Ghana. Observers say the move could position Volta as a model for traditional authority led investment diplomacy that delivers direct community impact.
