Mahama Champions Global South Unity at Davos

President John Dramani Mahama is set to lead a high-level dialogue on the Accra Reset initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026. The event aims to promote fairer partnerships among nations and strengthen sovereign capacity in the face of growing global challenges.

According to the Presidency, the Accra Reset is a Global South-driven initiative seeking to rethink international cooperation and promote more equitable global governance. The initiative was launched at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly and endorsed at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

The Davos meeting will bring together African and Global South leaders, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya, and President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Former heads of state, such as Olusegun Obasanjo, Helen Clark, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, will also participate.

President Mahama has described the Accra Reset as complementary to his domestic reform agenda, the Resetting Ghana Agenda. He emphasizes that effective national governance requires both internal reforms and a more equitable international system.

The Accra Reset has gained significant global traction, with its focus on sustainable development, equity, and African ownership of solutions resonating with leaders worldwide. The initiative proposes new frameworks for financing, business, and partnerships, emphasizing workable models, shared value, and sovereignty.

The outcome of the Davos meeting is expected to shape global cooperation and reinforce Africa’s role in shaping international solutions.
