KATH Urges Swift Completion of Heal Komfo Anokye Project

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is pushing for the urgent completion of the Heal Komfo Anokye project, aimed at renovating and modernizing the hospital’s facilities. The project, launched in November 2023 by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, seeks to raise $10 million to refurbish the 70-year-old hospital.

The hospital, which serves as a referral center for 12 out of Ghana’s 16 regions, has been in dire need of renovation. The project has already seen significant progress, with phase one completed, including the refurbishment of leaking roofs and exterior overhauling of dilapidated offices and wards ¹.

The Asantehene has been instrumental in driving the project forward, with over $4 million raised in the first six months. The hospital’s management is optimistic that the project will be completed soon, with plans to transition to solar power and reduce reliance on the national grid.

The Heal Komfo Anokye project is crucial for improving healthcare services in the Ashanti Region and beyond. KATH’s Acting CEO, Dr. Kwando Sarbeng, has expressed gratitude for donations, including a GH¢125,000 contribution from KNUST’s College of Health Science.
