Minister Appeals for Strike Suspension

The Education Minister has appealed to members of the Universities Senior Staff Association (UNISA) to suspend their strike action, as the government makes some payments today. According to JoyNews, the Minister made the appeal amidst ongoing negotiations to resolve the impasse.

The strike, which has disrupted academic activities in Ghana’s universities, was called by UNISA over concerns about salaries and benefits. The Minister’s appeal is seen as a positive step towards resolving the issue.

According to the Minister, the government is committed to addressing the concerns of university staff and is making efforts to meet their demands. “We urge the staff to suspend the strike and allow negotiations to continue,” the Minister said.

The strike has affected thousands of students and lecturers, with many calling for a resolution to the impasse. UNISA has been firm in its demands, insisting that the government addresses their concerns.

The government has assured the association that payments will be made today, and officials are optimistic that the gesture will help resolve the issue.

The situation remains tense, but stakeholders are hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon.
