The Spirit of Excellence
“Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit
was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.” — Daniel 6:3 KJV
Excellence is a spirit before it is a skill. It is an inward posture that produces outward distinction.
God is not looking for perfect people, He is looking for people who carry an excellent spirit —
people who do things heartily, diligently, and honorably as unto Him.
An excellent spirit does not do just enough to get by, it does enough to glorify God. It is careful
with details, faithful with time, honest in little and much. “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do
it with thy might” — Ecclesiastes 9:10 KJV. Excellence is might in your work, purity in your motive,
and consistency in your character.
Daniel had an excellent spirit and it set him above others in a strange land. Kings noticed.
Preference followed excellence. “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before
kings; he shall not stand before mean men” — Proverbs 22:29 KJV. When you carry excellence,
God makes room for you in high places.
Excellence is worship. Excellence is witness. People see God in how you handle your assignment.
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” — Colossians 3:17
KJV. Let your life, your work, and your words be done in excellence today.
We walk in excellence by the Spirit. “And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in
understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” — Exodus 35:31 KJV. When
you are filled with the Holy Spirit, He empowers you with wisdom and skill to do all things
excellently for the glory of God.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for putting Your spirit of excellence within me. Fill me afresh with Your Holy
Spirit and empower me to live and work with diligence, wisdom, and distinction. Let my life reflect
Your excellence and bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
