Ablakwa Calls For Honest Look At Real Causes Of Conflict In Africa

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for an honest introspection on the real causes of conflict on the African continent.
Mr. Ablakwa made the call on Friday, August 29, 2026, when he addressed the African Union Executive Council’s 26th Extraordinary Session on Conflict Resolution and Prevention in Angola.
Speaking on Friday, August 28 2026, the Foreign Minister demanded an immediate end to what he described as the normalization of conflict and extremism in Africa, warning that time is running out to build a new and transformed continent.
He stated that the story of the continent cannot continue to be defined by tragedy, where conflicts, terrorism, violent extremism and humanitarian crises have become normal. He said Africa needs to take a new path.
Mr. Ablakwa urged African leaders to focus attention on the real drivers of conflict, which he listed as injustice, lack of opportunities for the youth, underdevelopment, corruption, resource exploitation, intolerance, insincerity and serving as pawns for proxy forces.
He reminded colleague Foreign Ministers that recent images of over 72,000 young Africans breaching fences to enter Ceuta in Spain should highlight the urgency of silencing the guns.
According to him, the development underscores the need to divert resources from funding conflicts to creating jobs for young people.
The minister said that addressing the root causes through good governance remains the most sustainable form of conflict prevention.
