GIS Launches Crackdown on Irregular Migration in Accra

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced plans to carry out a targeted enforcement operation in the Greater Accra Region this week, aimed at rescuing vulnerable individuals and addressing irregular migration. According to #CitiNewsroom, the operation is part of GIS’s broader mandate to enforce immigration laws and safeguard national security.

The exercise is expected to focus on areas with high concentrations of street activity and informal settlements, where many undocumented migrants are believed to be residing. GIS has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities, emphasizing that law-abiding foreign nationals have no reason to fear.

In a previous operation, GIS arrested over 2,241 individuals, including children and adults, in Accra and other cities. The service has been working to address the issue of irregular migration, which has become a significant concern in recent years.

The GIS has assured the public that the operation will be conducted with professionalism and respect for fundamental rights. The service has also called on the public to report any suspicious activities related to undocumented migration.

The operation is part of GIS’s ongoing efforts to enforce immigration regulations and enhance national security. The service has been collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and international partners to combat human trafficking and smuggling.
