Police Officer Killed in Armed Robbery Ambush

 

A police officer has lost his life in the line of duty after being shot by armed robbers along the Zebilla-Widnaba road in Ghana’s Upper East Region. According to Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, when two officers encountered the robbery in progress.

 

The robbers opened fire on the officers, hitting one of them. The other officer escaped unhurt and alerted a police team, which rushed to the scene and transported the injured officer to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

 

The police have launched a special operation to apprehend the perpetrators, vowing to bring them to justice. The body of the deceased officer has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

 

The Upper East Regional Police Command is leading the investigation, with support from other security agencies. The incident has heightened concerns about insecurity in the region.

 

The police have not released the name of the deceased officer, pending notification of his family. The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by security personnel in the line of duty.

 

The police are urging the public to cooperate with the investigation and provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
