Volta Regional Secretary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gladstone Stanley, has expressed deep concern over the continuous decline in the party’s votes in its traditional stronghold despite the region being described as the World Bank of the NDC. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Howedey.com after successfully completing his vetting yesterday, 18th October, 2026, at the Regional Office in Ho, he said the trend must be reversed with urgency.

“The total polls in the NDC keep reducing after each electoral year even though the Volta Region is perceived as the electoral World Bank of the NDC,” Gladstone Stanley lamented. He noted that while the Volta Region has always delivered for the NDC, the numbers are dropping election after election, a situation he says should worry every loyal party member.

Gladstone Stanley said his decision to contest the Volta Regional Secretary position is to provide a fresh drive that will reconnect the party to the grassroots. “I am here to work with the Regional and Constituency Executives to reverse that trend when elected Volta Regional Secretary,” he told Howedey.com. He stressed that his focus will be on unity, consensus building, and empowering the grassroots structures which he described as the engine of the party.

He added that building consensus among all factions and empowering branch and constituency executives is key to restoring confidence and improving voter turnout. “There is the need to build consensus and empower grassroots,” Stanley stated, adding that every constituency must have a voice and every activist must feel valued in the regional administration.

The vetting exercise, held from October 16-17, 2026, forms part of the NDC’s roadmap towards regional elections scheduled for November 14-15, 2026, following nominations on October 14-15. Gladstone Stanley joins a competitive race to replace former Secretary James Gunu who is now Volta Regional Minister.

Party supporters who accompanied him to the vetting expressed confidence that his message of inclusion and grassroots empowerment will help reverse the declining votes and re-energize the NDC’s World Bank in Volta ahead of the 2028 general elections.
