The Acting Director of IT and Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibrill, has stated that the party will proceed with its Nkwanta North Constituency executive elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Thursday, October 22, Mr Jibrill said the party had not been formally served with the injunction and was therefore continuing preparations for the elections.

“The Nkwanta North election will come on this weekend. From what I have in the data as we speak, we have no injunction on us. Nobody has served us, and party headquarters, the general secretary, is running the election of the constituency. So for us, we know the election will go on,” he said.

The High Court in Dambai in the Oti Region had on Wednesday, October 21, granted an interlocutory injunction restraining the NDC from conducting the elections, following concerns that some individuals selected or presented as branch executives were not legitimate representatives.

The injunction, which will remain in force until final determination of the suit, also bars the party and its officials from submitting, certifying, using or relying on the register of branch executives compiled following branch elections held in June and July 2026. The application was brought by Gmajobe Yaw and 22 other constituency members against the NDC, the constituency chairman, Isaiah Kudjo Dordoe, and the constituency election committee chairman, Jonathan Makunaye.

Mr Jibrill acknowledged party members’ right to seek legal redress but argued that going to court would not automatically halt the party’s internal electoral processes. “You can go to court. Nobody can prevent anybody from going to court. But that doesn’t stop the election,” he said.

He also urged party members to understand the NDC’s internal electoral guidelines, arguing that constituency elections should follow the party’s established rules. According to him, the party’s data showed that only six per cent of the branches in Nkwanta North had participated in the contest, while 63 per cent of the constituency had gone ahead with the process, which meets the required two-thirds threshold.

The Nkwanta North poll is part of the NDC’s nationwide constituency executive elections scheduled for October 24 and 25, as the party reorganises its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
