Mahama Praises Police for Crime-Fighting Efforts

President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Management Board (POMAB) for their sustained efforts in tackling armed robbery and organised crime, as well as their commitment to transforming the Ghana Police Service. According to #CitiNewsroom, the President’s praise comes as the Police Service continues to make strides in combating crime and improving public safety.

The President’s commendation is a testament to the Police Service’s dedication to professionalism and accountability. In recent times, the Service has achieved notable successes, including the rescue of kidnapped individuals and the arrest of suspects linked to high-profile crimes.

Mahama has also urged the Police Council to drive meaningful reforms, prioritizing officer welfare and community engagement. He emphasized the need for people-centred policing, built on accessibility, dialogue, empathy, and partnerships.

The President’s call for reforms comes as the Police Service faces challenges, including politicization and arbitrary promotions. Mahama has warned against such practices, stressing their detrimental impact on morale and public trust.

The Police Service has received government support, including the procurement of armoured vehicles to boost operational capacity and officer safety. The President has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing necessary resources for the Service to excel.
