BoG’s True Loss: 44 Billion Cedis, Says Oppong Nkrumah

A heated debate has erupted over the Bank of Ghana’s financial position, with Ranking Member of the Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, claiming the true loss incurred by the central bank for the 2025 financial year is actually 44 billion cedis. According to #3NewsGH, Oppong Nkrumah has accused the Majority of engaging in propaganda to conceal the real facts about the central bank’s financial position.

Oppong Nkrumah, speaking on behalf of the Minority, has promised to prove his claims in the coming days, sparking intense interest in the matter. The controversy surrounds the Bank of Ghana’s expected loss of about 15.6 billion cedis for the 2025 financial year, with the Majority attributing the losses to measures aimed at stabilizing the economy ¹ ².

However, Oppong Nkrumah has rejected this explanation, arguing that the Majority is trying to shift public perception ahead of the release of the Bank of Ghana’s financial accounts. He has called for full publication of the BoG accounts for independent scrutiny, emphasizing that only then can the public have a complete understanding of the situation ³.

The dispute reflects a growing debate about Ghana’s economic management, with the Minority accusing the government of abandoning principles it once championed in opposition. The Bank of Ghana has sterilized about 62 billion cedis from the economy in 2025, a move that has come under scrutiny ⁴.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Ghanaians are eagerly awaiting the release of the Bank of Ghana’s financial accounts, which will provide clarity on the central bank’s financial position.
