Court Orders AG to Take Over OSP Cases

The High Court in Accra has directed the Attorney-General’s Department to immediately assume control over all criminal prosecutions currently being handled by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). According to #CitiNewsroom, the court’s decision is pending formal authorization from the Attorney-General’s office.

The ruling follows a directive from Justice Samuel A. Marfo, who emphasized the need for the Attorney-General’s Department to take charge of the cases. The OSP had been handling several high-profile corruption cases, but the court’s decision has raised questions about the future of these prosecutions.

The Attorney-General’s Department is expected to provide formal authorization for the takeover, after which the OSP will hand over the cases. The move has been seen as a significant development in Ghana’s ongoing fight against corruption.

The OSP was established in 2018 to investigate and prosecute corruption and other related offenses. However, the court’s decision has sparked debate about the role of the OSP and the Attorney-General’s Department in prosecuting corruption cases.

The outcome of this development is likely to have far-reaching implications for Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.
