Kwetey Hits Back at Corruption Ranking Critics

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, a prominent government official, has responded to Ghana’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranking, acknowledging that while overnight change is impossible, the current administration has made significant strides in reducing massive corruption scandals. According to TV3GH, Kwetey emphasized that eight years of moral decadence cannot be erased in just a short time, but efforts are underway to combat corruption.

Speaking on the matter, Kwetey highlighted the government’s commitment to fighting corruption, citing the absence of high-profile corruption scandals under the current administration. This comes after Ghana scored 43 out of 100 in the 2025 CPI, ranking 76th out of 182 countries, a slight improvement from the previous year’s score of 42 {{IE_0}}¹{{/IE_0}} {{IE_1}}²{{/IE_1}}.

Transparency International’s report attributes Ghana’s stagnant performance to weak enforcement of anti-corruption laws, politicization of institutions, and insufficient reforms. The report also notes that the country’s score has hovered around 43 since 2020, with a peak of 48 in 2014 {{IE_0}}¹{{/IE_0}}.

Kwetey’s response is seen as a defense of the government’s anti-corruption efforts, amidst growing concerns about corruption in the country. The government has been under pressure to address corruption allegations, with critics arguing that more needs to be done to tackle the menace.

According to Transparency International Ghana, Ghana’s ranking highlights the need for sustained efforts to strengthen justice systems, protect civic space, and promote transparency and accountability.

The CPI report has sparked intense debate in Ghana, with calls for the government to do more to address corruption. As the country moves forward, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to these concerns.
