Mahama’s Economic Advisory Group to Serve Without Pay
Ghana’s former President John Mahama has formed a Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) comprising renowned economists and business leaders, who will serve without remuneration. According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State responsible for Government Communications, the group will provide strategic guidance on macroeconomic policy, fiscal consolidation, and economic growth.
The advisory group includes prominent figures such as Kwame Pianim, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, and Togbe Afede XIV, among others. According to Joy News, these individuals are offering their services voluntarily, driven by a desire to contribute to Ghana’s economic development.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the group’s purpose is service to the nation, not personal financial gain. “They are not in here to make a quick buck,” he stressed. “They have been called upon to put their expertise at the disposal of the nation because we require a firm hand in the way our economy is managed”.
The PAGE will advise on key areas including macroeconomic management, debt sustainability, and coordination between fiscal and monetary policy. It will also guide structural transformation, industrial development, competitiveness, and export-led growth.
According to the Presidency, the group will report directly to President Mahama and submit advisory memoranda and briefs as needed. Its establishment reflects the President’s commitment to inclusive growth, economic stability, and long-term national development.
The advisory group is expected to play a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s economic recovery and growth strategies, including the 24-Hour Economy and Reset Agenda initiatives.
