NADMO Races to Clear Teshie Bush Road Encroachers

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Taskforce has conducted a demolition exercise at Teshie Bush Road, destroying several structures that were illegally built on waterways. The operation, which was carried out with a military escort, aimed to mitigate the risk of flooding in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the residents of the affected structures had been informed to relocate over a year ago but failed to do so. Stephen Nketia, Municipal Works Engineer, justified the demolishing, stating that the residents were adequately informed not to proceed with the structures.

The demolition exercise is part of NADMO’s efforts to address the issue of unauthorized structures built on waterways, which pose a significant risk to lives and property. The organisation has been working to clear such structures in various parts of the country to prevent flooding and other disasters.

NADMO’s Director General, Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has emphasized the importance of prioritizing the National Disaster Management Strategy to mitigate the impact of disasters. He has also called for collaboration with stakeholders to address the issue of unauthorized structures.

The demolition exercise has left many residents without homes, highlighting the need for alternative housing solutions. NADMO has been working with other government agencies to provide support to affected individuals.

The organisation’s efforts to clear unauthorized structures are expected to continue, with more demolitions planned in other parts of the country.
