Ghana’s Workers Bear Brunt of Economic Squeeze

Ghana’s workers are feeling the pinch as various groups, including teachers, nurses, and security services, await payment of salary arrears. According to a post by Kofi Ofosu Nkansah on social media, the situation is dire, with some groups owed up to 15 months in salary arrears.

The list of affected groups includes UTAG, CETAG, TUSAG, JUSAG, and security services, who are all demanding payment of their dues. Nurses are owed 11 months’ salary, while teachers are owed 15 months. Cocoa farmers are also struggling, with three months’ arrears pending.

The situation has sparked outrage among Ghanaians, who question the government’s priorities. Meanwhile, inflation has reportedly dropped to single digits, and the value of the dollar and petrol prices have decreased.

The government’s response to the situation has been muted, with no clear plan to address the mounting arrears. The affected groups are calling for urgent action to address their concerns and ensure that their dues are paid.

The situation highlights the challenges facing Ghana’s economy and the need for effective management of the country’s resources. The government must take concrete steps to address the concerns of its workers and citizens.

The impact of the situation is being felt across the country, with many families struggling to make ends meet.
