NDC Sets Resignation Deadline for Aspiring Officials

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all government appointees eyeing party executive positions to resign from their public offices at least six months before the party’s internal elections. This directive, announced by NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, aims to ensure fairness and discipline within the party’s internal democratic processes.
According to Kwetey, the resignation deadline varies depending on the level of office being contested. Those seeking constituency-level positions must resign by April 2026, regional-level aspirants by May 2026, and national-level contenders by June 2026. The directive applies to ministers, deputy ministers, chief executive officers, managing directors, and metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives, excluding board chairpersons and members.
Kwetey emphasized that the party will enforce the directive strictly, without exemptions, to curb excessive advantage and ensure a level playing field. “It is an issue of reducing the level of greed. If you want to work for the Party, you leave your position in government. You can’t have one leg here, and another there,” he stated.
The NDC’s decision is part of a broader internal reorganization effort prioritizing integrity, fairness, and collective responsibility. The party will hold its National Delegates Conference on December 19, 2026, to elect new national officers.
According to Pulse Ghana, Kwetey urged party officials to apply themselves diligently, act transparently, and uphold NDC values {{IE_0}}ยน{{/IE_0}}.
The move is seen as a step towards strengthening internal cohesion and ensuring credibility ahead of future electoral contests.
